Here I perform Valerie Coleman’s “Danza de la Mariposa,” a vibrant and beautiful piece for solo flute that evokes musical styles of South America, including Peruvian Yaravi and Argentinean tango.

Adolphus Hailstork’s “Flute Set” (2003) is a four-movement work for solo flute (unaccompanied) that lasts about 5-6 minutes. Born in 1941, Hailstork is an American composer who is a professor of music and Composer-in-Residence at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia.

Köhler’s Opus 66 is a beautiful set of short etudes for flute. Etude #3 is “Teasing” (a.k.a. “Die Neckerin,” “La Railleuse”).
