"Danse de la chèvre" (Dance of the Goat) was written for solo flute by Arthur Honegger in 1921 as incidental dance music for "La mauvaise pensée" by Sacha Derek.
In this video, I revisit one of my favorite solo flute pieces, Debussy’s “Syrinx.” Written in 1913 as incidental music for the play "Psyché" by Gabriel Mourey, Debussy's "Syrinx" (alternatively titled "La flûte de Pan") evokes the ancient Greek story of Pan and Syrinx.
Here I perform Valerie Coleman’s “Danza de la Mariposa,” a vibrant and beautiful piece for solo flute that evokes musical styles of South America, including Peruvian Yaravi and Argentinean tango.
For this holiday season, I wanted to create a simple and festive arrangment of popular Christmas carols for flute quartet (4 C flutes). “Four Flutes A-Caroling” includes 12 holiday carol arrangments that are easy to play and easy to put together, and should be accessible to many levels of player, including high school students and adult amateurs.
